Those curious eyes start looking for our attention, tails start wagging to express happiness, and those tiny paws run in every corner of the house; they enliven the house, and yes, they speak in ‘’meow’’ to win our hearts. The Cats!  Research shows that- petting cats in the household removes depression, negativity, and stress. Playing with a cat releases Oxytocin, the love hormone, and reduces heart disease. So, it’s a win-win for both the cat and the owner.

As the human population grows, civilization and work stress and hardships gradually increase. That’s leading people to seek mental peace, the overall well-being of mental health, and eventually adopting and petting cats. These are the countries where cat populations are the highest:

United States: Cats make up over 74 million of the population in the United States. About 25.4% of households own cats in the U.S . Vermont has the highest rate of cat ownership, with about 45% of households owning a cat. American Shorthair Cat is a common breed in the U.S.

China: Over 53 million cats are owned by entire China households. Dragon Li and the Orange cats are popular breeds in China.

Russia: Cats are considered good luck in Russia. About 60% of people own cats in Russia. In Russia, cats make up over 17 million people. Longhaired Siberian Cat and Silver-hued Russian Blue, etc, are the popular cat breeds in Russia.

Brazil: More than 12 million cats live in Brazil. Brazil is the home of wild cats. Brazilians often compliment people’s beauty, saying- gato or gata, which literally means Cats! The popular cat breed, Brazilian Shorthair, has gained the first international recognition from Brazil for cat breeds.

France: Almost 28% of French households own at least one cat. There are over 11 million cat populations in France. The ‘’Le Chat Noir’’ is Paris’s most famous cat, and it is also seen on millions of posters, postcards, T-shirts, mugs, etc. British Shorthair, Bengal, Sacred Birman, Maine, Ragdoll, etc, are the popular cat breeds in France.
